Randi Rules, Charlatans Drool!

One of our favorite shows (that we get on DVD, since no cable) is Penn & Teller's Bullshit!. Skeptic and atheist magicians Penn and Teller debunk a lot of modern day myths. I like it when they tell PETA jerks to fudge off. Also, one of the things I really like is when they bring in magician and skeptic granddaddy James Randi, AKA The Amazing Randi, in to do a really thorough debunking. Randi has spent the last 30 plus years debunking such schmucks as John Edwards, Uri Geller, Sylvia Browne, and Peter Popoff. The James Randi Foundation has put up a million buck jackpot to anyone that can prove a psychic ability or superpower that can be observed and tested by a third independent party. So far, no one has passed the preliminary test. The stuff may not be comforting to take in, but it's refreshing and real, and Randi rules, especially when you see what jerks these psychics can be. John has links to some footage of Sylvia Browne on the Montel Williams Show, and boy, she really is hateful, esp. when she screws up. Hon, would you be so kind as to link them to Mixed Nuts? The truth will set you free!

Actually, I could post them here, so no one would have to site hop hon. The first one is here and here is the second clip.

What really pisses me off is the fact that Montel tries to defend her and even tells the guests they're wrong and Sylvia is right by the way he addresses them. It makes me sick that anyone could support anyone that would take advantage of someone suffering like that.

Do you have any info about how Randi debunked John Edwards?

All of the so called "mediums" are using standard stage show techniques called cold reading or the shotgunning approach. They talk about this on Penn & Teller's very first episode of Bullshit the episode on Talking To The Dead. James Randi was one of the experts they brought in debunking this sort of crap. Also another good show that really breaks it down in laymans terms is the season 6 of South Park entitled The Biggest Douche in the Universe.

We'd be glad to! They've got some great topics too. We've got both seasons 1 & 2 on DVD and we hope to pick up season 3 soon! It came out about a month or so ago. We also have the episode of The Biggest Douch in the Universe on DVD too! Funny stuff!
