The Comedians of Comedy Tour

Sigh. Still glowing and smiling from one of the best nights of my life. September 12 was the date of the Comedians of Comedy show at The Black Cat in D.C.

For those of you who don't know, the Comedians of Comedy is a tour featuring Brian Posehn, Eugene Mirman, Morgan Murphy and, my man, Patton Oswalt. We found out there was a D.C. show a few months ago, and have been strategizing a way to attend a COC show for a few months now. It all came down last night, and it was awesome.

The Black Cat is located near the poshy Dupont Circle area, sort of the yuckier part of Dupont Circle. We found a boss hotel called the Topaz Hotel, which was about 0.8mi from the club. The place reminds me of an old-time hotel, small lobby, lots of hospitality, and a new-age Zen theme (tea kettle and exotic teas in the rooms). Very cool. Last night we walked over to the club and were the first people in line for the show. As we were standing, waiting for the doors to open, I was futzing with my bag, when I heard someone clapping and cheering, and then my husband calls out, "Patton!" And, smack my ass, Patton, Brian and Morgan all come up to the club door. They seemed really cool and talked to us briefly before going inside. We managed to get front row center positioning for the show. Patton came out first and did some material, then introduced Morgan Murphy, who reminded me of a female Steven Wright- very dry, phlegmatic, but very funny. Brian came out next, and was just awesome. And I am convinced Eugene Mirman will, as his popularity increases, be the next guy to totally revolutionize comedy. Finally, Patton performed another set, and just killed. It was an awesome sold-out show. He did a bit on Richmond when he found out where John and I were from. Best of all, there was a meet and greet afterwards, where you can get stuff signed. We brought an 8X10 copy of the picture of Bob watching Patton's stand-up, which he recognized and signed, and showed it around to the others. Also, Brian signed my copy of Issue 1 of his comic, The Last Christmas. Eugene signed my copy of his CD. I wish I had something for Morgan to sign, but she's relatively new on the tour and not a lot of the merch was centered around her. But I did compliment her on her stand-up. I felt like I witnessed great art, rather than see famous funny people. It was absolutely wonderful, and I'd do it again anytime! People, if you have $15, do yourself a favor and go see a Comedians of Comedy Show. Awesome!
